Lopes to take on Pepperdine, Milwaukee, ASU in Tempe

Grand Canyon heads across town to close out the nonconference slate this week in the Sun Devil Classic at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe.

AT A GLANCE

GCU head coach Kendra Potts claimed her 150th career win against Drake.
Saturday's match against Arizona State marks just the second meeting between the programs since GCU went Division I in 2013.
Freshman setter/opposite Bella Nunez hit .800 against Long Island on Aug. 29, setting a GCU D-I era record in her collegiate debut for hitting percentage.
Nunez secured the season's first Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors.
GCU graduate Hayden Goodman ranks 11th in the country and first in the Mountain West in blocks per set (1.57).
The Lopes rank 51st in the country with 15.38 digs per set.
GCU comes in at 45th in the country with 2.62 blocks per set.
Nunez recorded the program's first triple-double of GCU's D-I era when she tallied 10 kills, 21 assists and 21 digs against Washington State on Sept. 6.

LAST TIME OUT

GCU won a five-set thriller against Drake before falling to No. 1 Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Lopes outblocked Nebraska 8-4 and had more service aces (5-4).
Thursday will mark the first match between GCU and Pepperdine, while Friday marks the first match ever between Milwaukee and the Lopes.

SCOUTING

Pepperdine pulled off a dramatic reverse sweep against UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday behind a career-high 17 kills from Maggie Beauer and a strong block.
Milwaukee is 0-9 heading into Wednesday night's match against DePaul. The Panthers have played Wisconsin and Marquette.
No. 8 Arizona State got swept by No. 2 Texas on Sunday but is 2-0 at home this season.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes open the Mountain West schedule at home on Sept. 25th against Boise State.
