Season's 1st road trip sends Lopes to No. 1 Nebraska

Lincoln visit marks return for GCU assistant Vorderer after being Huskers' GA
Grand Canyon heads on the road for the first time this year to face Drake on Friday and No.1 Nebraska on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
AT A GLANCE
- Freshman setter/opposite Bella Nunez set a GCU Division I-era record in her collegiate debut with an .800 hitting percentage.
- Nunez earned the season's first Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor.
- GCU graduate middle blocker Hayden Goodman ranks 25th nationally and second in the Mountain West in blocks per set (1.5).
- The Lopes' home crowd ranks sixth nationally in total attendance with 14,053 fans.
- Nunez recorded the program's first Division I-era triple-double against Washington State with 10 kills, 21 assists and 21 digs.
- Lopes assistant coach Ryan Vorderer previously served as a graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2020 and 2021.
- Assistant coach Evan Larson formerly coached Nebraska's Teraya Sigler and Kenna Cogill in club volleyball.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU won a five-set thriller against Washington State before falling to Northern Arizona.
- The last time the Lopes faced Nebraska was in 2015, when the Cornhuskers won 3-0. Nebraska went on to win its fourth national championship.
- The last time Drake and GCU matched up was in 2022, when Drake won 3-0 in Wichita, Kan.
- No. 1 Nebraska enters the weekend with a 6-0 record, including three wins against top-10 opponents. The Huskers opened the season by defeating No. 3 Pittsburgh and No. 4 Stanford, dropping just one set across the weekend. Their toughest challenge came from No. 7 Kentucky, which pushed them to five sets. Nebraska will face Utah on Friday night.
- The Bulldogs hold a 3-3 record this season after going 2-1 last weekend in Coral Gables, Florida. Riding a two-match win streak, Drake will face GCU on Friday in a midday matchup.

- The Lopes return to Arizona to take on Pepperdine, Milwaukee and Arizona State in the Sun Devil Classic from Sept. 18-20.
