Grand Canyon head coach Winston Gandy announced the hiring of Adrian Sanders as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women's basketball program.
Sanders spent the past decade in a coaching role, beginning as a graduate assistant at Southern University and spending the past three seasons at Louisiana as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
At Louisiana, the Ragin' Cajuns finished above .500 in Sun Belt play in each season since 2022-23, with Sanders recruiting Erica Lafayette, who earned 2024-25 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and All-Sun Belt Second Team honors.
Prior to Louisiana, Sanders spent one season at UC Santa Barbara, where the Gauchos finished 10-2 on their home court and 9-8 in Big West play. There, she coached
Callie Cooper, who transferred to GCU in 2023-24 and became a vital piece to GCU's 32-3 season this year, earning All-WAC Defensive Team honors.
Sanders was also an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern for three seasons prior to UC Santa Barbara, helping lead the Lady Jaguars to the 2018-19 SWAC regular-season championship, 2019 SWAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
She began her career as a graduate assistant at Southern in 2014-16, when the Lady Jags went 38-23 with back-to-back SWAC Tournament final appearances and a WNIT berth in that span. She later moved to Southeastern Louisiana and served as a volunteer coordinator in 2016-17.
Sanders also has coaching experience at the high school and AAU levels.
Sanders played collegiately at Southern, totaling 950 points, 380 rebounds, 230 assists and 125 steals. She played for the Louisiana Bayou Angels in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League, winning regional titles in 2016-17. She was inducted into the Southern University sports Hall of Fame in 2024 and is a member of the National Association of University Women and WBCA Assistant Coaches Committee and the Black Coaches Association.
