Sydney Erikstrup is the next Lopes player to compete at the professional level, joining Australia's Rockingham Flames in the NBL1 West.
The Erikstrup name is becoming common in Australia, where Sydney's twin sister, Laura, also signed with the Woodville Warriors of the NBL1 Central last month.Sydney ,ade her pro debut this weekend with a 13-point, seven-rebound, five-assist game.
Sydney completed her second season with GCU this past spring, helping the Lopes to its first-ever WAC regular-season and WAC Tournament championships. Erikstrup appeared in 34 of 35 games and averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10 minutes per game. The 6-foot-1 guard joined the Lopes' record-breaking 3-point numbers, shooting 37% from downtown this season and 39% for her GCU career. She also shot 43% from the field and 79% at the free throw line as GCU went 56-11 in her two seasons.
Sydney was a key contributor in the Lopes' perfect WAC season, especially early in conference play this year, when she averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists while making seven 3s during a five-game stretch from Jan. 16-30.
The Rockingham Flames, located in Perth, Western Australia, play in the NBL1 West, where eight of the 13 teams will earn a spot in the playoffs later this summer.
