3 THINGS TO KNOW

Sophomore second baseman Savannah Kirk was named the WAC Player of the Week for the second time after her performance in Riverside, California, last week. She was ranked as the 10th-best second baseman in the nation via Softball America in the April power rankings. Kirk ranks third in the country in hits (58), fourth in batting average (.518) and sixth in stolen bases (29).

Junior pitcher Taryn Batterton was one out away from a seven-inning no-hitter at CBU last weekend. Her one-hitter marked the first complete game of the season for the Lopes staff. The effort earned her second WAC Pitcher of the Week award of the season.

The Lopes are receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Softball poll (28th). They are the first team outside the NFCA Top 25 this week with 18 votes. Finally, the Lopes were ranked as the fifth-best mid-major in the country via D1Softball this week.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UTAH
- This will be the 14th-16th matchups between GCU and Southern Utah, with the all-time record in favor of the Thunderbirds at 7-6. Southern Utah won the last meeting, 8-7, in last year's series finale. The Lopes won the previous two games.
- The Thunderbirds are 9-19 on the season with a 4-5 conference record. Southern Utah took last week off after taking two of three games on the previous weekend when hosting California Baptist. GCU just swept CBU last weekend.
- Southern Utah is hitting .256Â with a team ERA of 5.17.
- Thunderbirds infielder Ariyana Miranda leads the way offensively with a .341 average and .433 on-base percentage.
LAST TIME OUT
at California Baptist
- The Lopes went 4-0 over the past week in Riverside, sweeping California Baptist and beating UC Riverside mid-week.
- GCU posted shutouts at UC Riverside and in the first two games of the CBU series,. It was the Lopes' first streak of three consecutive shutouts this season..
- Kirk delivered multiple hits in each of last week's four games, extending her multi-hit streak to five games entering this weekend.

GCU hosts Seattle U next weekend for a three-game set. The Lopes trail the Redhawks by a half-game for the WAC lead going into this weekend of play.
