PHOENIX – It was moving day at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix at the PING/ASU Invitational, and Grand Canyon made the most of the leaderboard shuffle by jumping up three spots into sixth place at 7 over par.
The three-spot movement was the largest of any squad in the 15 team field, carding a 4 over score in round two after a 3 over total in Friday's round one.
Host school Arizona State leads the pack at 28 under, followed by Northwestern in second (13 under) and Kansas in third (1 over). GCU trails Kansas by six strokes and is only one shot back of Pepperdine for fifth.
Spots one through five are currently held by top 50 teams in the country via Clippd Scoreboard rankings, and GCU holds a three-stroke lead over No. 34 California and 11 stroke advantage over fellow WAC school Abilene Christian.
Sophomore
Brenna Preap maintains a top 10 showing and is tied for ninth at 1 under for the tournament. Preap shot 2 over today, notching two birdies and four pars over her final six holes.
Junior
Lena Tremouille gained three spots and is tied for 17th after a 1 over second round. Tremouille is 1 over overall and played holes three through 16 with 15 pars and one birdie. Senior
Anci Dy is 3 over after a 2 over second round and is currently tied for 30th for the tournament.
Making the largest leap of the day for the squad was graduate
Calynne Rosholt, who shot a 1 under, 71. Rosholt moved up 21 spots and is tied for 39th at 4 over.
Sophomore
Jess Haines is tied for 64th at 11 over, with individualist senior
Amelia Curtis tied for 69th at 14 over.
GCU is fifth in both par 3 and par 5 scoring as a team, going 6 under in total on par 5's. The Lopes are also tied for fifth for most pars over two rounds with 116.
Third and final round action concludes tomorrow morning. GCU will tee off on hole number five with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
