Lopes, Wildcats meet for top-25 midweek battle

Grand Canyon hosts in-state foe Arizona on Wednesday night at GCU Softball Stadium.

Grand Canyon was ranked for the first time in program history in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. They are ranked 24th.
Lopes freshman utility player Jada Cooper homered three times over the weekend against Utah Valley. She leads the WAC in home runs and RBIs.
The Lopes are batting .365 with a 1.82 ERA this season. The batting average ranks eighth in the country. The Lope's ERA ranks sixth in the nation.

This will be the 15th matchup between GCU and Arizona, with the all-time series at 14-0 in favor of the Wildcats. Arizona won the last matchup, 3-2, last year in Tucson.
The Wildcats are 26-4 on the season with wins over ranked opponents UCLA, Stanford and Alabama last weekend. They lost in extra innings to top-ranked Texas.
Arizona is hitting .382 with a team ERA of 2.52. The Wildcats average is second best in the country.
The Wildcats rank in the top 10 in scoring, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

at Utah Valley

The Lopes went 2-0 over the past weekend in Orem against Utah Valley.
GCU won both games during Friday's doubleheader, winning the first game 16-2 in five innings. The 16-run, 16-hit game marked season highs in both categories.
Game 3 of the series on Saturday made it through a half-inning before it was canceled due to snow.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lopes host their first WAC series of the season this weekend when Tarleton State comes to town for three games (two on Friday and one Saturday).
