Grand Canyon junior right-handed pitcher
Taryn Batterton took home WAC Pitcher of the Week honors Monday after a stellar first weekend of the season.

Batterton pitched 11 2/3 innings over the span of the six-game GCU Kickoff Classic that ran Thursday through Sunday. She finished the week with no runs and only three hits allowed and 12 strikeouts to one walk.
The highlight of the week came Friday night vs. Colgate when she threw the program's ninth solo no-hitter and 10th no-hitter, including combined no-no's.
Batterton made her first start since returning to GCU after a one-year stint at McLennan Community College in Texas. Batterton gained plenty of experience, going 15-3 with a 1.82 ERA over 102 1/3 innings, and it showed Friday night at GCU Softball Stadium when she tossed a no-hitter for a five-inning, 8-0 win by run rule.Â
"I am so impressed with Taryn," Lopes head coach
Shanon Hays said. "She has shown a ton of grit, maturity and development since decided to go get more experience at McLennan. The coaching staff there really helped her mature in so many ways. It is awesome seeing her succeed and develop as a leader on our team."
Batterton earned two wins over the weekend, adding Saturday night's 3-1 victory over Montana to the no-hitter. She is tied for 20th in the country with her teammate
Maggie Place for most victories through the first week of the season.
Batterton and the Lopes will be back on their home field at 6 p.m. Thursday vs. Weber State to start the Littlewood Classic, co-hosted by GCU and Arizona State.
