480-square foot screen enhances Lopes' gameday experience
GCU Softball Stadium has been taken to the next level with a brand-new video board beyond left field.
After three consecutive WAC Tournament titles and NCAA regional appearances, a rising Lopes program is receiving a major upgrade to the beautiful GCU Softball Stadium.
"Our GCU softball program has quickly become a nationally competitive program under the leadership of Coach Shanon Hays," GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said of the fourth-year head coach. "We are excited to add a new vibrant video board for students and fans to experience an enhanced family-friendly gameday atmosphere while cheering on our fearlessly competitive softball team."
With the weather that Phoenix brings, it has long attracted many quality opponents to GCU Softball Stadium early in the season. Next season will be no different, with multiple tournaments hosted by GCU to start the year and more opportunities to put the new board to use. The Lopes played 37 home games last season, winning 30 of them.
Video board capabilities will include video and animations to enhance the gameday experience. Fans will also easier follow along during the games with updated line scores and headshots.
The video board is more than 25 feet wide and nearly 20 feet tall, with steel posts holding the screen up. Next Level Steel donated the steel, making the renovation possible.
"Without Next Level Steel, this wouldn't have happened," Hays said. "We are so appreciative of them and are counting on them coming to throw out the first pitch (on Opening Day)."
Boggs added, "We are very thankful for President Mueller and his team and Next Level Steel for making this happen."
With the fall season quickly approaching, fans can see the board in use for games on Oct. 2, Oct. 5 and Nov. 2.
