Development continues into summer ball

GCU's Yorke, Lyon head for prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League
Following Grand Canyon's postseason success with a pair of NCAA tournament victories and a trip to a regional championship, Lopes' players scattered throughout the country to continue their development in summer ball.
The summer baseball schedule allows GCU players to gain more experience by facing off against fellow college student-athletes in leagues across the country.
After just completing their sophomore seasons, first baseman Zach Yorke and right-handed pitcher Isaac Lyon are headed to the Cape Cod Baseball League, the most prestigious of the summer college baseball leagues. At the Massachusetts-based wood bat league, Yorke will play for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks while Lyon will pitch for the Cotuit Kettleers.
The Cape Cod League got underway on Saturday, with Yorke making the Opening Day start for Hyannis in the cleanup spot. He walked once and scored a run in his debut. On Tuesday, he homered on a 2-for-3, 5-RBI night.
The Appalachian League features former minor league stadiums and facilities that were left out of MLB's consolidation of minor league teams. Freshman catcher Brady Francisco and sophomore pitcher Brock Toney will play for Greeneville, while incoming Lopes pitcher Jace Behnke will play for Elizabethton.
A mainstay in summer league baseball, the Northwoods League, will feature five GCU representatives on five different teams.
Other Lopes players are bound for the West Coast League, Alaska Baseball League, California Collegiate League, Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and Rocky Mountain League.
Six Lopes are headed to the West Coast League, which features teams in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.
