Grand Canyon added Ryan Vorderer to new head coach Kendra Potts' first Lopes coaching stafff.
"We are so excited to have Ryan join the GCU volleyball family," Potts said. "Ryan is a coach who aligns with the values of GCU and the volleyball program. He brings quality and experience not only as a high-caliber player during his collegiate and international careers, but also as a very capable coach and recruiter."
Vorderer served as a UTSA assistant coach for last year's 15-15 team, following a two-year tenure as a graduate assistant at Nebraska. For the Cornhuskers, Vorderer assisted in weekly scouting reports and recruiting responsibilities, analyzed in-game opponent offense and facilitated practice drills.
In 2018, Vorderer spent the year living in England to complete his master's degree while playing volleyball for the University of Essex and Tendring Volleyball Club. The university team won the national championship with Vorderer playing a prominent role in starting every game at outside hitter.
Tendring Volleyball earned a promotion to England's Super League, which is the top division for club teams in England. Vorderer also assisted with the Tendring women's team for the season, when they won the Super League Championship title for the first time in club history. His responsibilities consisted of executing scouting reports, running drills and preparing the team for upcoming opponents.
Prior to his coaching career, Vorderer played volleyball at Lindenwood, where he was a four-year starter at libero from 2015-18 and earned All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors. He led the MIVA and was third in the nation in digs per set in 2018. Vorderer also set the program record for digs at Lindenwood.
Vorderer earned a bachelor's in finance from Lindenwood in 2018 and a master's degree in marketing management from Essex in 2019.
