Grand Canyon moved within a Saturday win of a perfect home season and maintained its WAC half-game lead Thursday night by defeating UT Rio Grande Valley 72-43 at sold-out Global Credit Union Arena.
The Lopes (25-4, 15-3 WAC) are 15-0 at home and could complete the program's first unbeaten home season since 1991-92 by beating Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night. With Tarleton State (21-7, 14-3 WAC) winning 85-74 on Thursday night at Utah Tech, the Texans remain a half-game behind GCU. Tarleton State plays at Southern Utah on Saturday night.

Tyon Grant-Foster racked up 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and and three blocked shots. He made 7 of 12 shots from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line with the Lopes only getting one other free throw attempt.

The Lopes limped to a halftime lead of 28-24 but surged out of the locker room by carrying over the same defensive effort while increasing its tempo offensively. GCU outscored UTRGV 18-2 over the second half's first seven minutes to lead 46-26. The Vaqueros missed nine of their first 10 second-half shots and made three turnovers over that span.
