Grand Canyon designated hitter
Beau Ankeney's breakout start to the season was rewarded with the first WAC Player of the Week award.

After going 0 for 6 in 2022 and redshirting last year, Ankeney delivered on the first two nights of the season with 6-for-9 hitting that included two home runs, a double and four RBIs in two Lopes victories.
On Friday night, the Phoenix native collected his first three career hits in his first start. Ankeney helped GCU defeat Georgetown 5-2 by delivering an opposite-field RBI single for a 4-1 single in the third inning. Ankeney's leadoff double in the sixth inning led to him scoring on a suicide squeeze for the Lopes' fifth run.
The Desert Vista High School graduate followed it up Saturday night with a second three-hit night that flexed more of his power. Ankeney hit a sixth-inning solo home run for a 4-1lead and capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the ninth inning.
