The Grand Canyon swimming and diving teams return to Phoenix after a competitive week in Hawai'i to host Arizona Christian, Ottawa (Ariz.) and Simon Fraser (B.C.) in two days of competition. The action begins at 4 p.m. Friday with Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Fr. Edward A. Reese Aquatic Cente.rÂ
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- GCU junior Paula Martinez Moreno earned her second WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honor after wins in the 50-yard butterfly (24.78 seconds), 100 butterfly (53.47) and 200 butterfly (2:01.39) last weekend at Hawaii. Martinez Moreno's times in the 100 and 200 are the best in the WAC by nearly three seconds.
- GCU freshman diver Omar Elsayed took first in the platform event with a school-record 403.58 points. Elsayed also placed second of six in the 1-meter event (312.53 points), which will earn a zone cut.Â
- Saturday's competition will include 20 to 25 GCU alumni competitors.Â
SCOUTING
The Lopes came out victorious last season against Arizona Christian, Ottawa (Ariz.) and Simon Fraser (B.C.), winning by more than 100 points in each dual meet during the 2023-24 season.
