Grand Canyon star of mid-1970s guided Lopes to NAIA national title as 3-time All-American
Forrest will be part of a 10-member class inducted on Nov. 3 in Lakeland, Florida, to the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame, which pays tributes to those who contributed greatly to college basketball to more than 1,000 programs at the NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA levels, among others. Grand Canyon was part of NAIA until 1990 and played at the Division II level until 2013.
Forrest, a 6-foot-10 center, was a three-time selection to the NAIA All-America first team (1974-76) and remains the all-time Lopes leader in scoring (2,195 points) and rebounds (1,544 boards).
He guided Grand Canyon to the 1975 NAIA national championship and was named Most Valuable Player of the postseason tournament after he posted 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots in the title game, which the Lopes won 65-54 against Midwestern State. From 1972 to 1976, Forrest averaged 18.0 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting 53.5% from the field.
The 1991 Grand Canyon Hall of Fame inductee was drafted by the Phoenix Suns and played the 1977-78 and 1978-79 seasons with them before a back injury ended his NBA career.'
