It is only fitting that Bayard Forrest be the first individual student-athlete inducted into the GCU Athletic Hall of Fame. During his four year tenure with the Antelopes, Grand Canyon won their first NAIA National Championship (1975) and his career at Canyon stands today as the yardstick for measuring both individual and team success. During his four seasons on the basketball team, Grand Canyon had a record of 104-18 and he was selected NAIA First Team All-American three times. His record-setting career includes eight landmark "bests." He is also known as much for his Christian commitment as for his on-court success. He passed on his initial opportunity to play in the NBA, instead opting for a year of participation and ministry with Athletes in Action before spending two seasons with the Phoenix Suns.
