San Diego to drop by for midweek matchup

The Grand Canyon softball team will host San Diego at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at GCU Softball Stadium.

Tuesday is First Responder Appreciation Night.
The Lopes rank first in the WAC in 14 of 17 categories, and hold seven NCAA top-15 rankings.
Senior right fielder Kristin Fifield ranks first in RBIs (37), second in RBIs per game (1.68) and sixth in home runs (8) and total bases (58) in the NCAA this season, while junior pitcher Hailey Hudson ranks fourth in shutouts (4).

The Toreros come to Phoenix 6-15 after most recently facing San Diego State (4-0 win), Montana (12-0 and 11-0 wins) and Boston (10-1 loss) last weekend.
San Diego is led offensively by Emma Giaime (hitting .375) and Izzy Owen (10 RBIs) and is led in the circle by pitcher Courtney Rose (2.08 ERA).
GCU holds a 5-0 all-time record against San Diego but has not faced the Toreros since 2021, when the Lopes beat them 1-0 and 7-2 in a doubleheader on the road.

GCU at GCU/ASU Classic

GCU went 5-1 last weekend, beating Michigan State 6-3, Boise State 5-4, New Mexico 6-1, Charlotte 6-2 and falling to No.12 Washington 5-0.
The Lopes earned their sixth and seventh home doublehader sweeps but suffered their first shutout.

The Lopes host Abilene Christian and Colorado State in the GCU Invitational on March 10-12.
