ARLINGTON, Texas – With five players reaching double figures and the defense holding its opponent to 50 points or fewer in its fourth straight game, Grand Canyon earned its fourth straight victory Saturday with a 77-48 road win over UT Arlington.
GCU (6-2, 2-0 WAC) gets back into nonconference action for the rest of the month before resuming its full slate of WAC play in January.
Lopes junior guard
Callie Cooper had a career day with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting with three 3-pointers and four rebounds. The Richardson, Texas, native also tallied two steals, the third time in the last four games she has notched two or more steals.

Trinity San Antonio (14), graduate forward
Shay Fano (11) and junior guard
Naudia Evans (10). Evans also had a career day in rebounding, pulling down 10 boards for the first double-double of her career.
Fano reached the 1,000-point club with her final basket of the game. The forward added four rebounds and two assists off the bench for her second straight double-figure scoring game.
The Lopes had their best first quarter of the season with 26 points while holding UT Arlington (1-7, 0-2 WAC) to eight points. It was the fourth straight game that GCU has held its opponents to single digits in the first quarter. Cooper had two 3s and eight points in the first quarter as the team shot 69%% through the first 10 minutes.
The Mavericks answered with 21 points in the second quarter, but GCU shot 50% for the second quarter to maintain its double-digit advantage and led 43-29 at the break.
The Lopes held UT Arlington to six third-quarter points and 19 second-half points as it ended with its largest margin of victory of the season. GCU is 4-2 at home this season but has yet to reach 70 points at GCU Arena, whereas it has totaled 73 and 77 points in its road games.
Saturday marked the third straight game shooting 50% or higher from 3-point range. It also shot 50% from the field, making two straight contest and three this season with at least 50% shooting.
