Grand Canyon junior shortstop
Jacob Wilson was named D1Baseball.com's Top Summer Breakout Prospect for success in a GCU uniform last spring, a stint in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League and a headline-grabbing month starring on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

Wilson's "dream summer" was
documented on GCULopes.com last month.
"When I got to (Team) USA, that was awesome," Wilson told D1Baseball.com. "It was one of the coolest experiences I've ever done. It was so much fun meeting all the new guys, all the college baseball players and the college coaches. Just to talk to the coaches and see what they have to add and learn from the game."
D1Baseball.com writer Patrick Ebert profiled Wilson's summer with thoughts from Wilson, new Lopes head coach
Gregg Wallis and
Jack Wilson, Jacob's father and a new GCU assistant coach
Jack Wilson.
The last two players to win D1Baseball.com's Top Summer Breakout Prospect award were Chase DeLauter of James Madison (2021) and Jordan Wicks of Kansas State (2020). Both went on to be first-round draft picks with DeLauter going 16th overall to the Cleveland Guardians in the 2022 MLB Draft and Wicks going 21st overall to the Chicago Cubs in 2021.
