The Grand Canyon women's basketball team revealed its 2022-23 season schedule today with 18 home games, including an in-state matchup versus Arizona State on Nov. 30.
"We are really excited to get this season underway and officially announce our nonconference and conference schedules," GCU head coach
Molly Miller said. "As a whole, I believe our schedule will be competitive and challenging, which is exactly what we want as we chase our championship goals."
The Lopes begin the season with an exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at home against Western New Mexico. Five days later, GCU hosts its season opener against crosstown Arizona Christian for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
GCU hosts Grambling State on Nov. 12 before heading on the road for the first time at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on Nov. 18. The Lopes return home for the Thanksgiving Classic, beginning Nov. 25 with Manhattan, Lindenwood and North Dakota participating. GCU plays North Dakota on Nov. 25 and Lindenwood on Nov. 26 in the tournament.
The Lopes welcome in-state foe Arizona State for a midweek, primetime matchup on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. It will be the first time since 1994 that the two teams have met and the first time in the Division I era for GCU.
"The home game against Arizona State will be a great measuring stick for us early in the season," Miller said. "We are excited about the local interest and community opportunity to come join the Havocs, as we host the Sun Devils at GCU Arena."
Following ASU, GCU concludes its homestand with Kansas City on Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. The Lopes travel north to play at Montana on Dec. 8 before heading back home to host Columbia College on Dec. 11 and Idaho on Dec. 18. The nonconference slate concludes with a road trip to UC Irvine on Dec. 21.
GCU hosts nine WAC teams from late December to early March, including California Baptist (Dec. 31), Tarleton (Jan. 5), Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 7), New Mexico State (Jan. 19), Southern Utah (Jan. 25), Abilene Christian (Jan. 28), Seattle U (Feb. 18), Utah Valley (Feb. 23) and UT Arlington (Feb. 25).
