GCU's director of player development joins Catamounts for coaching opportunity
Ryne Lightfoot, Grand Canyon's director of player development for men's basketball, has accepted a role at Western Carolina as an assistant coach.
Lightfoot joined the Lopes staff in the summer of 2020 upon GCU's hiring of head coach Bryce Drew. In his two seasons with the Lopes, he was an important component in the program's success with oversight of game and practice scheduling, equipment and travel while serving a key role in the organization of the recruiting process. He also assisted with in-game management on GCU's bench and served as an on-court assistant coach when other coaches were absent or COVID rules allowed.
Western Carolina is located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, and plays in the Southern Conference. Lightfoot will serve under Catamounts head coach Justin Gray, a former Wake Forest standout who is entering his second season leading Western Carolina's program.
Lightfoot was previously a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach over 12 nonconsecutive years at Bethel University in Indiana.
Lightfoot joins Achoki Moikobu as members of GCU's men's basketball support staff under Drew to earn roles as Division I assistant coaches. Moikobu spent last year at Drake and is now at North Texas.
