Grand Canyon sophomore shortstop
Jacob Wilson was named to the midseason watch list for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award announced by USA Baseball on Tuesday.
Wilson was one of 45 individuals to make the midseason watch list for college baseball's top honor.
Against the nation's 16th-toughest schedule, Wilson leads the team in hitting (.393), slugging (.684), home runs (eight), RBIs (35) and on-base percentage (.450).
Wilson's best week came March 14-20 where he racked up several weekly national honors. He was named the national player of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Perfect Game, D1Baseball.com and Collegiate Baseball.
During that week, Wilson racked up up 18 hits in 23 at bats in five games. He hit .783 in the Lopes' 4-1 week that including a midweek victory at No. 5 Oregon State and a conference sweep of Utah Valley. On the week, he finished with 18 hits, 13 RBIs, nine runs scored, four doubles and three home runs and had a 1.348 slugging percentage.
Wilson currently holds the 15th-most hits in the nation with 46 while ranking 25th nationally with 35 RBIs.
The Thousand Oaks, California, native is paired with outfielder Carlos Contreras of Sam Houston as the only honorees from the WAC.
Wilson and the Lopes play host to Texas Tech for a midweek series who feature fellow watchlist member Jace Jung.
