The No. 7 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team won its first game against No. 8 Stanford 3-2, then fell to No. 1 USC 4-1 on the first day of the Battle for LA Invitational Saturday at Merle Norman Stadium.

No. 7 GCU vs. No. 1 USC

GCU's fifth year pair on Court No. 5 Dana Roskic and Cami Sanchez were the only Lopes to defeat the Trojans, winning in straight sets 21-16, 21-18. On Court No. 4, sophomore Krista Rowan and junior Abbie Hughes were the lone pair to play three sets against USC but fell in the third set 15-9.
