Gianni earns MPSF weekly honor

GCU outside hitter leads Lopes with 38 kills over the weekend
The Grand Canyon men's volleyball team earned its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation weekly honor with outside hitter Camden Gianni being named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week.

Gianni paced the GCU offense in the first two conference matches of the season, finishing with 38 kills on .456 hitting while adding 11 digs and four service aces against No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday and Sunday.

The redshirt sophomore began GCU's two-match split with 20 kills on a .318 hitting mark in a four-set loss to the Wave. It was the third 20-kill in the last four matches for Gianni, who helped the Lopes take the first set in dramatic 42-40 fashion before Pepperdine won the next three sets.

On Sunday, Gianni and the Lopes responded with a four-set win to wrap up the homestand. Gianni was unstoppable, as he tallied 18 kills with just one hitting error on 24 attacks. His .708 hitting percentage was a new career high for matches when the Carlsbad, California, native had at least five attempts. Defensively, Gianni added two solo and block assists and seven digs.

Gianni and the Lopes will be back on the road this week in MPSF play against BYU on Friday and Saturday.
