Conference coaches vote GCU in tie with USC, favor UCLA
With the 2023 season just around the corner, the Grand Canyon men's volleyball team was picked fourth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Lopes are coming off a 16-12 season that included a 6-6 conference record and the fourth seed at the MPSF Tournament.
GCU collected 19 points to tie with USC in the coaches' poll. The Lopes return a bulk of their roster and starting lineup from last season, including All-American outside hitters Christian Janke and Camden Gianni.
Defending regular-season champion UCLA took the top spot while Pepperdine earned one first-place vote and 28 overall points for second place. The Waves are coming off an impressive run that won the MPSF Tournament as the No. 3 seed last season.
Stanford comes in at No. 3 in the poll with 24 points and one first-place vote after a 14-14 season that included a run to the last year's MPSF Tournament championship match. The Cardinal returns its entire roster, including first-team All-American Will Rottman.
BYU comes in at sixth with 18 points with five starters returning from a sixth-place season, and Concordia Irvine rounds out the poll in seventh with six points after a 10-16 season.
The Lopes open the season at home against Lindenwood on Jan. 6 in GCU Arena.
