Fresh off an 11-win season and apperance in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament the Grand Canyon women's soccer team welcomed five new players to the class of 2023 on National Signing Day.

Chris Cissell said. "These student athletes are tremendous players, phenomenal students and have great character and integrity. They will fit in extremely well in our family atmosphere, culture and team first mentality."
Signees Elise Flores and Madison Hamm from California, Sabrina Guzman of Oklahoma, Sophia Rubano of Washington and hometown product Hannah Uhlenhop of Glendale will form the freshman class next season.

ELISE FLORES
Forward - Arroyo Grande, Calif. - Eagle HS
THE PLAYER: Elise enters her final high school season this spring as the team captain with three years of experience under her belt at Eagle High School in Arroyo Grande, Calif. She is coming off of back-to-back first team all-league honors. Her sophomore year she had six goals and seven assists while she added four more goals and six assists last year. She was part of the squad that won the Mountain League Championship for the first time in nine years. Flores has also played club soccer for Eagles ECNL.
THE PERSON: Elise is a regular surfer at her local beach and she enjoys camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains with her family. Her favorite jersey number is 28 that was worn by her father Robert when he played semi professional soccer for the Central Coast Roadrunners in the United States Interregional Soccer League. She chose GCU because of the high level of athletics and the immense amount of appreciation she felt from Coach Cissell and th rest of the staff.
SCOUTING REPORT: "Elise is a very special attacking player with tremendous quality that will fit in extremely well in our possession, offensive style of play and tactics. She is extremely versatile and can play and four or five different attacking positions." – Cissell
SABRINA GUZMAN
Midfield - Oklahoma City, Okla. - Bishop McGuinness Catholic HS
THE PLAYER: Sabrina has had a stellar prep career as she enters her final season this spring. She led her team to a state title in 2022 and was awarded the Jim Thorpe Player of the Year award for women's soccer. She was the leading scoring for Bishop McGuinness last year with an astounding 33 goals and 28 assists. She earned all-district and all-city honors. Guzman is a multi-sport athlete winning the state championship in the 4x400 relay along with playing a year of basketball in 2019.
THE PERSON: Soccer is a family sport for Sabrina and her siblings. Her oldest sister Cenayda was part of the U-17 Mexico National Team pool from 2009-10 and played college soccer for five seasons at The College of Saint Rose and Fort Hays State. Her other sister Samantha is a sophomore at Oral Roberts and she finished with 13 points this year. Sabrina enjoys volunteering in her free time and referring soccer games. She chose GCU because of the community and the feeling of family within the soccer team.

I knew Sabrina and her family from my days in the midwest and I was excited when she decided to attend ID camp and show us her unique ability to play in our possession style and system. She is a very technical, creative midfielder that will help us continue to play great team soccer here at GCU" – Cissell
MADISON HAMM
Midfielder - Roseville, Calif.. - West Park HS
THE PLAYER: Madison has a stellar year last season earning athlete of the year honors at West Park High School while also being named League MVP and earning All-League honors. At her club Davis Legacy ECNL Hamm has been a team captain for five straight years while being invited to the U.S. Youth National Camp and the U.S. National Training Center. She also attended the U.S. Club Soccer's Player Development Program. Madison was also stellar in the classroom earning an academic award after maintaing a 4.0 GPA as a student athlete.
THE PERSON: Madison's older sister MacKinely attends GCU while her younger sister Meyers and brother Marek are both playing soccer and football back home. She enjoys the outdoors specifically going snowboarding every weekend in the winter. Madison chose GCU because of the coaching staff and the culture that school has. She enjoys the campus, athletic facilities and the nursing program that GCU offers.
SCOUTING REPORT: "Madi has always impressed me every time I have had the opportunity to watch her play and compete. She has a tremendous skill set and can play anywhere in the midfield. We are looking forward to having her help us play our style of soccer while also dominating tackles, 50-50 balls and aerial battles within the midfield." – Cissell
SOPHIA RUBANO
Defender - Camas, Wash. - King's Way Christian HS
THE PLAYER: Sophia was named to the 2021 Youth Girls All-American while playing for her club Portland Thorns Academy. At her high school King's Way Christian, Rubano would often train with the boys team and was named to the Evergreen Conference First Team. During her prep career Sophia lived in Spain for three months at a soccer academy.
THE PERSON: Off the soccer field Sophia enjoys cooking and doing volunteer work. Her father Chris played tennis and soccer in college and she has a younger brother Brennen. She chose GCU beceause of the Christian community, the coaching staff and the family atmosphere with the team.
SCOUTING REPORT: "Sophia is another player that originally caught our eye and impressed us in our ID camps. She is extremely versatile and can play and compete and so many different positions for us. She has great quickness, pace and has a real love and passion for the game of soccer. She is another player that will fit in extremely well in our family atmosphere, team first mentality and culture." – Cissell
HANNAH UHLENHOP
Goalkeeper - Glendale, Ariz. - Mountain Ridge HS
THE PLAYER: The lone Arizonian in this signing class, Hannah comes to GCU from Mountain Ridge High School and local club SC del Sol. At Mountain Ridge, Hannah was a multi-sport athlete playing four years of basketball and running track and field for two. On the court she was earned All-Region First Team honors in 2021.
THE PERSON: Hannah will join her older sister Alissa who is a sophomore on the GCU volleyball team. She chose GCU because of the campus atmosphere and the success of the soccer program and coaching staff. She enjoys watching the U.S Women's National Team and the Arizona Cardinals. When she's not on the soccer field Hannah enjoys reading.
