GCU women’s volleyball earns at-large bid to NIVC Championship
Grand Canyon women's volleyball will continue its season with its first postseason appearance at the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, featuring 32 of the nation's top Division I teams.
The single-elimination tournament sends GCU (17-10) to Wichita, Kansas, for a first-round matchup against Wichita State (18-12) on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 2:30 p.m. (Phoenix time). Lopes graduate libero Megan Taflinger previously played four years for the Shockers, ending with the spring 2021 season.
The winner will advance to the play a Dec. 5 match in Wichita against the winner between Drake (26-7) and Weber State (17-11).
"We are excited for the opportunity to play in the NIVC," Lopes head coach Tim Nollan said. "Wichita State is a quality program with a veteran coaching staff."
The Shockers rank 60th on the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), while the Lopes sit at 126th. Each team faced Wyoming this season with Wichita State winning in five sets and GCU prevailing in four sets. This will be the programs' first-ever meeting.
"I can't wait to see our team compete again," Nollan said. "We had some very exciting moments this year, and I just wasn't ready to see this season be over."
