Basketball game-night scene enhances
10/6/2022 9:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball, Gameday
Pregame offerings feature new restaurant for Lopes Club, big screen for tailgate
The unique Grand Canyon basketball fan experience starts before the games tip off and the GCU Arena doors open.
A Lopes game night is like no other, but the entertainment value has been made even better this year with the introduction of new aspects to "The Biggest Party in College Basketball."
Before the environment ignites inside GCU Arena, Lope Nation will be treated to a pregame scene around the venue with an upgraded Quad lawn tailgate scene and a new restaurant for Lopes Club members' pregame dining.
"Our fans are as special as our basketball game-night experience, and we wanted to make the setting even more enjoyable from the moment they step on campus," said GCU President Brian Mueller, who will host Lopes Club members and GCU players and coaches at his home for a preseason event this year. "A GCU basketball game is electric to watch, not only because of what we have building on the court but also because of the atmosphere that our Havocs student section generates in GCU Arena. These new pregame offerings will further enhance the opportunities for families to experience the GCU community during the buildup to tipoff."
Upon arrival, Lopes fans will be greeted by a new outdoor Quad video screen with a larger viewing surface and improved quality for daytime viewing. In addition to the viewing upgrade, audio improvements have also been made with a new sound system installed at the Quad, the lawn area located just outside GCU Arena.
In addition to the multi-tiered platform on the Quad's north end, a new outdoor kitchen will open with rotating grill items for the GCU pregame tailgates.
Also new, a restaurant will open this fall at the GCU Arena's west end to transform the Lopes Club's previous pregame dining area. The restaurant, named the Havoc House, will be open exclusively to Lopes Club members before games and include a covered outdoor dining area between the restaurant and the Jerry Colangelo Museum.
Havoc House also will feature pregame family discounts for women's basketball games, including a Nov. 30 home game against Arizona State. Men's basketball season-ticket holders can secure their seats for the first meeting between teams since 1994.
The men's basketball season features the program's toughest schedule with potentially the best team at GCU, which broke through to its first NCAA Division I tournament appearance in 2021. Since the arrival of basketball head coaches Bryce Drew and Molly Miller, each program has won 40 games in the past two seasons.

Men's basketball home games traditionally sell out each game with a nationally renowned and raucous environment, which is enhanced by the Havocs participating in themed nights with Disney, neon and patriotic attire. The Havocs carry the entertainment between whistles while national touring acts perform during halftime.
