Following last Saturday's sweep of New Mexico State, the Grand Canyon women's volleyball team finishes off a three-match homestand with a 3 p.m. Saturday match against Sam Houston at GCU Arena.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
MITCHELL 3K: GCU senior setter Klaire Mitchell passed the 3,000-assist career mark last week in a match against UT Rio Grande Valley. She has accumulated 3,080 career assists with a career average of 10.1 assists per set. Only 22 active players in the nation have 3,000 assists and an average of 10 assists per set. Mitchell, a native of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has recorded at least 40 assists in five consecutive matches for the first time in her career. She delivered 42 assists in just three sets against New Mexico State last Saturday.
- WEALTH OF HEALTH: The Lopes' improving performance correlates with the return of key players. Senior middle blocker Annabelle Kubinski, a Preseason All-WAC honoree, started her first match Saturday and junior outside hitter Ashley Lifgren is averaging 15 kills per match in the last five full matches she has played.
- HOT HITTERS: GCU is 9-1 this season when it hits at least .225 in a match, including Saturday's .283 hitting for a sweep of New Mexico State.
SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON
- Sam Houston enters with a seven-match losing streak after being swept Thursday night at California Baptist, 25-17, 26-24, 25-12. The Bearkats led 19-11 in the second set.
- Madison Dyer, a 5-foot-10 freshman middle blocker, is Sam Houston's scoring leader with 2.55 kills per set, 0.91 blocks per set and 24 aces. Junior Catherine Krieger, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, averages a team-high 2.74 kills per set.
- Sophomore libero Hannah Baker set a Sam Houston record with 50 digs in a September match against Tulsa.
LAST TIME OUT

- The Lopes recorded their first sweep of New Mexico State in series history last Saturday, when they won 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 with 15 kills from Lifgren and 13 kills by freshman outside hitter Tatum Parrott.
