The Grand Canyon softball team left the friendly confines of GCU Softball Stadium for the first time in its fall schedule. A pair of exhibitions await the Lopes in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.
GCU will play Long Beach State on Saturday at 3 p.m. and UNLV on Sunday at 10 a.m. from Eller Media Stadium.
The trio of high-level softball programs combined to go 111-53 (.677) last spring.
The Lopes have completed half of their eight-game fall schedule, hosting Arizona State, Arizona Western, Central Arizona and South Mountain so far in October. After the two games in Las Vegas this weekend, GCU will conclude its fall slate with a Wednesday game at Arizona State and a Nov. 2 home finale against Central Arizona.
Long Beach State finished as the second-place team out of the Big West in last year's spring season, coming up just one game shy of conference champion Cal State Fullerton in the standings. The Beach went 29-22 overall and 19-8 in Big West play. The two programs last met officially in the spring of 2017.
The host UNLV squad posted an impressive 43-15 mark last spring but finished third in Mountain West play at 17-7. The Rebels were one of the nation's best offenses with a .309 batting average that ranked 23rd nationally and a .498 slugging percentage that was 31st nationally. The programs last met in March 2020 before the season was cut short.
