The Grand Canyon women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to San Antonio for games against Incarnate Word and UTSA.
Â
GCU has started the season on a high note, recording a 3-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana and a 5-0 win over Central Arkansas in the past week at GCU Stadium. It is the first time in program history that the Lopes started a season with two straight shutouts.Â
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- CONTRIBUTIONS EVERYWHERE: Along with the two shutouts, the Lopes also saw the offense come alive. GCU has scored eight goals from seven players while tallying nine assists from nine players. Redshirt junior Dani Babb leads the Lopes with two goals while GCU has outshot opponents 56-12.
Â
- RECORD BREAKER: Fifth-year defender Hannah Edwards broke a long-standing GCU record on Sunday, becoming the program's all-time leader in minutes played with 6,613. Edwards broke a tie with former teammate Kelsey Smith (2014-18) and Janelle Salazar (2007-10), who now sit tied for second at 6,575 minutes. Edwards didn't stop there, also scoring in the 5-0 win over Central Arkansas and being named WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
- TOP OF THE WAC: With the offensive explosion, the Lopes lead the WAC in most major offensive categories including goals (eight), assists (nine), points (25) and shots (56). Sophomore Jordan Ferguson is the only WAC goalkeeper who hasn't allowed a goal this season.
