Grand Canyon women's basketball announced the addition of former Illinois prep star Ambranette Storr.
"Ambranette is a prolific scorer, as she scored just under 3,000 points in her high school career," GCU head coach
Molly Miller said. "She is a tough guard that is a great rebounder from the perimeter. Both her scoring capabilities and her knack for rebounding will help impact our program right away."
The 5-foot-9 guard out of Kankakee (Illinois) High School finished her high school campaign in 2020 with 2,913 career points. As a senior, Storr collected multiple recognitions and awards, including being named all-state first team by the Associated Press, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and the
Champaign News Gazette. The Bradley, Illinois, native also was honored on the all-state team for Prep Girls Hoops Illinois while being named the
Kankakee Daily Journal Player of the Year and an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-star.
Storr averaged an astounding 31.8 points per game during her senior year to rank first in Illinois and seventh in the nation. Her teams went 59-6 over her junior and seniors seasons, including a junior season in which she averaged about 25 points, eight rebounds and three steals to earn more all-state honors. She averaged about 23 points as a sophomore, contributing to a career scoring total that ranks in Illinois'Â all-time top 20 prep scorers.
"I chose GCU because of the family environment it has and how genuine and down to earth the coaching staff is," Storr said. "I'm so excited to get to work in Phoenix."
Storr was named the Newcomer of the Year as a freshman last season at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri, where she transferred during the winter break after starting the school year at Drake. Storr averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists for the Greyhounds.
"She has a love for the game, and that passion will be spotlighted in our system," Miller said. "I can't wait to watch her grow as a person and a basketball player these next four years in a GCU uniform."
