TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 10 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team had a perfect day, earning three sweeps on Day 1 of the Arizona Invitational at Bear Down Beach. The Lopes took down UC Davis, Colorado Mesa and No. 13 Arizona.
"It was great to see us get to a point where we are playing some very good volleyball," Lopes head coach
Kristen Rohr said. "People stepped up in different spots and executed. I really liked our fight today."

The first match of the day for the Lopes began with a 21-15, 21-16 win on Court 2 by junior
Anaya Evans and freshman
Allanis Navas.
On Court 4, sophomore
Madi Relaz and senior
Taylor Jarzombek won 21-7, 21-17.
The dual was clinched on Court 5 with seniors
Katie Sarber and
Natalie Honzovicova winning 21-15, 21-13.
Freshman
Allison Hansen and graduate student
Paula Hoffmann beat the Aggies' No. 3 pair 21-8, 21-15 to push the lead to 4-0.
The sweep was secured by GCU's No. 1 pair as senior
Bella Bauman and sophomore
Teagan DeFalco won in three sets 18-21, 21-18, 15-11.
GCU dominates Colorado Mesa
Evans moved to Court 1 for the first time this season and earned the first win of the match with Bauman 21-11, 21-10.
Navas and Hoffmann came back together to continue their undefeated streak as a pair with a win against the Mavericks' No. 3 pair 21-17, 21-9.
The dual was secured by Sarber and Honzovicova on Court 5 after winning 21-10, 21-7.
On Court 2, GCU's Hansen and DeFalco took down Colorado Mesa's No. 2 pair 21-11, 21-14.
The Lopes' second sweep of the day was decided by a Court 4 win from Relaz and Jarzombek 21-16, 22-20.
Lopes get huge sweep over Arizona
After falling to the Wildcats 3-2 earlier in the season, the Lopes fired back with a huge 5-0 win Friday evening to earn their third sweep of the day and fourth consecutively.
To put the Lopes ahead 2-0, Navas and Hoffmann won both sets 21-17 on Court 4 and Relaz and Jarzombek defeated Arizona's No. 3 pair 21-19, 21-16.
The final three courts were forced to three sets.
On Court 1, Bauman and Evans lost the first set 19-21 then came back to win the match 21-19 and 15-12.
Sarber and Honzovicova won the first set 21-16, then Arizona's No. 5 pair forced the third set after winning 21-16. The Lopes got the victory with a close 15-13 win.
After falling 19-21 in set one, Hansen and DeFalco won 21-14 to push the match to a third set and won 15-11.
Up next, the Lopes face No. 8 Pepperdine on Saturday at 11 a.m. to close out the Arizona Invitational.
