Grand Canyon senior outside hitter
Yeny Murillo earned her second WAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after her performances against Dixie State on Monday and Tuesday.
"Yeny had a fantastic series against Dixie State," Lopes head coach
Tim Nollan said. "She posted 18 kills on Monday night and then followed that up with 19 on Tuesday afternoon. Just an incredible performance. It is really a testament to her teammates; her passers and setters putting her in great situations. It is also a testament to how hard she worked during the offseason with our strength and conditioning coaches to put herself in a position to shine when she is called upon."
Murillo, an Andalucia, Colombia native, earned her second straight Player of the Week award with a pair of dominating performances as the Lopes swept Dixie State. Murillo averaged 6.17 kills per set while hitting at a .356 clip against the Trailblazers. She also broke the program's Division I-era record for kills in a three-set match twice, posting a record 18 kills on Monday and then resetting the record with 19 kills on Tuesday. On the season, Murillo ranks fourth in the nation and first in the WAC with 5.4 kills per set during the Lopes' six-match span.
GCU is back in action on Monday when it travels to El Paso, Texas, to take on New Mexico State at 3 p.m.
