The Grand Canyon cross country teams will travel to Riverside, California, to race at the Highlander Invitational on Saturday. The women will take off at 8 a.m., and the men will start at 8:45 a.m.
Â
After almost a month off from racing, the GCU men will look to capitalize on this meet before going into the WAC Championships in two weeks. The conference meet also will take place in Riverside.
Â
Lopes junior
Jacob Lewis will take the start line once again for the Lopes, and looks to continue his strong season of leading the team in finishes. At the Roy Griak Invitational, Lewis finished first among the Lopes and 46th overall with a time of 25 minutes, 40 seconds.
Â
GCU redshirt freshman
Joseph Skoog, the 2020 WAC Freshman of the Year, will race this weekend after being unable to finish his first race of the season at the Roy Griak Invitational. Skoog will use this race to prepare for the WAC Championships in hopes of a performance like his sixth-place finish in 2020.
Â
Other redshirt freshmen,
Cannon Angotti and
Braedon Palmer, have been solid racers for the Lopes this season. Angotti and Palmer had a healthy month of training, and expect to come back strong for the last few weeks of the season.
Â
After competing at the Dave Murray Invitational to start the month, the young women's team is prepared for the upcoming race.
Â
Redshirt freshman
Hana Hall has led the Lopes in every race this season, and she is poised to continue that path for the upcoming meet. At the Dave Murray Invitational, Hall placed ninth with a time of 21:58.5.
Â
Running in her second race of the year, junior
Kendall Drisko finished second for the Lopes at the George Kyte Classic. Drisko will play a key part into the women's team success on Saturday.
