The Grand Canyon women's soccer team will stay local this nonconference season, playing four Arizona-based teams for five games.
Â
"We are extremely excited about the nonconference schedule that we have put together for our awesome soccer family and our incredible GCU fans!," head coach
Chris Cissell said. "We will have the unique opportunity to host all three other Division I women's soccer programs from the state of Arizona in our beautiful stadium on our great campus. This is an excellent opportunity for us to compete against the other top programs in our state and should be very exciting for all soccer fans in the state of Arizona and in the Phoenix area to see all of these great matches. "
The Lopes will start this spring season with an exhibition game against Benedictine Mesa at GCU Stadium, where the first four Lopes games will be played.
Then, GCU will then host the other three Division I soccer programs in the state starting first with Arizona on Feb. 4. It will be the first official meeting for both schools after previously meeting twice for exhibition games in the spring and fall of 2017. The Lopes will host Northern Arizona on Feb. 7 in a 2 p.m. contest, last meeting in an exhibition game in 2019.
Â
The nonconference slate will wrap up with a home-and-home matchup against Arizona State with the Lopes hosting on Feb. 11. GCU will travel crosstown to Tempe on Feb. 14 for the rematch. These games will be the teams' first meetings since 1996, the inaugural season of the GCU soccer program.
Â
WAC play will start the following weekend with GCU hosting Utah Valley on Feb. 18 and 20.
Â
All home games will be streamed live on GCUTV and the GCU Lopes app.
