Rohr signs Brazilian grad transfer

Grand Canyon beach volleyball signed Brazil native Paula Hoffmann, a graduate transfer from Eckerd College in Florida.

"We are really excited to be able to bring in someone with Paula's experience and background," GCU head coach Kristen Rohr said. "She has played at a high level, is a hard worker and understands what it takes to win."

Hoffmann, a Rio de Janeiro native, played three seasons of both indoor and beach volleyball for the Tritons, a Division II program in St. Petersburg.

The Brazilian played every match on Court No. 1 for Eckerd's beach team this year and finished with a 5-1 record before the season was suspended due to COVID-19.

She was named the beach volleyball team's Most Valuable Player at the ECSPYs, Eckerd's year-ending awards ceremony.

She also was a consistent player for the indoor team. As a freshman, she played in 28 matches and was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Newcomer team. She also led the team in kills with 360 and was second in digs with 283. In her sophomore season, Hoffmann played in 29 matches and posted 10 double-doubles. In her final season at Eckerd, she played in all 31 matches and posted 343 digs.

Hoffmann has competed internationally for Brazil for several years. In 2013, she won Best Young Athlete at the Brazil Olympic Awards.
