The Grand Canyon women's soccer team announced the addition of forward
Lindsey Prokop, the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year from Kansas City on Wednesday.
Prokop will join the Lopes for the 2020 season after a standout freshman campaign with Kansas City, where she played under new GCU head coach
Chris Cissell.
"We are thrilled to have
Lindsey Prokop joining our awesome GCU soccer family," Cissell said. "I had the opportunity to coach Prokop last year at UMKC and she had a phenomenal season, earning WAC freshman of the year honors. Lindsey is a very good soccer player and a great overall person, and she is an excellent and exciting addition to what we are building here on and off the field."
Prokop, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, started in 17 of 19 games for the Roos last season and led all WAC freshmen in goals (eight), points (19), assists (three), shots (42), shots on goal (22) and game-winning goals (three). Her four goals in WAC play was the top mark for true freshmen in the conference, earning her All-WAC Freshman Team honors. Her eight goals on the season were tied for 18th most among all Division I freshmen.
Prokop ended last season on a hot streak, scoring a goal in four of the final five games and posting a two-goal, two-assist performance in a 5-1 win against Chicago State. She also scored a goal in the semifinal of the WAC Tournament against Utah Valley and earned All-Tournament honors.
At Millard South High School in Omaha, Prokop scored 77 goals and 16 assists in leading her team to three consecutive state quarterfinal appearances. As a junior, Prokop scored a state-leading 34 goals to earn a spot on the All-Nebraska first team. During her high school career, Prokop played in club competition for Sporting Omaha FC coached by Tim Bennett.
