Grand Canyon hosts Pacific for a three-game set at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark beginning on Friday, when a 6 p.m. game opens a series pairing two 7-6 clubs. The Lopes and Tigers are set to meet for the first time in program history.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- PITCHING THE STRENGTH: The Lopes pitching staff is off to an impressive start this season. Through 13 games, GCU ranks 25th in the nation with a staff ERA of 2.62. Additionally, the control has been stellar with the Lopes ranking 18th in fewest walks per nine innings (2.76) and 46th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.0 to 1).
- CHALLENGING START: Difficult schedules are nothing new to the GCU baseball program. Thus far, the Lopes slate checks in as the 42nd-toughest schedule nationally. Among teams with winning records, GCU's schedule ranks as the 12th-most challenging.
- GRISSOM'S POWER: Junior Dominic Grissom hit his fourth home run of the young season on Wednesday against New Mexico. The Phoenix College transfer has accounted for most of the Lopes' seven home runs on the season. Grissom is one of 72 players in Division I baseball to hit four or more home runs thus far.
SCOUTING
Pacific has taken a tour of the WAC to begin the 2020 season. Including this weekend's series, 12 of the Tigers' first 16 games come against WAC schools. Pacific opened by winning three of four games against California Baptist, split a four-game series with Seattle and most recently lost a midweek matchup at Sacramento State. Pacific is 5-4 against the conference.
The Tigers are playing under interim head coach Chris Rodriguez after previous head coach Ryan Garko resigned a month before the season to join the Los Angeles Angels staff. Pacific's mark of 90 runs scored is a top-50 mark nationally.
WHAT'S NEXT
