Grand Canyon looks to build on its 6-2 start and first-place tie in WAC play when it hosts California Baptist on Saturday in GCU Arena.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- POW: Senior Da'jah Daniel and freshman Mae Bryant earned back-to-back WAC Player of the Week awards for GCU. Daniel is the WAC's leading rebounder with 10.6 rebounds per game, which ranks 16th in the nation. She also is one of 35 players in the nation with 10 or more double-doubles this season. Bryant is the WAC leader in field goal percentage at 55.6%.
- QUICK STARTS:Â In the last meeting with CBU on Jan. 11, GCU jumped out to a 26-12 lead after the first period in Riverside. The Lopes held off the Lancers to capture the 62-58 road win.
- RISE TO THE TOP:Â GCUÂ finished the first half of WAC play in a tie for first place with Kansas City. The WAC preseason coaches' poll put the Lopes in seventh in the conference.
SCOUTING
California Baptist defeated Utah Valley 80-67 and lost to Seattle U 83-49 last week.
CBU is led by Ane Olaeta with 11.9 points per game and a WAC-high 121 assists. Lexy Ram adds 11.8 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Last season, CBU finished second in the WAC and earned a spot in the WNIT.
