Freshman named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week
Grand Canyon men's volleyball freshman Camden Gianni earned his first career weekly award on Monday. The outside hitter was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week after the Lopes defeated No. 8 UCLA and No. 6 Pepperdine this weekend.
The two wins over top-10 teams helped move the Lopes (12-3, 4-1 MPSF) into their highest ranking in program history at No. 8.

Gianni was named the MPSF Player of the Night on Friday in a 3-1 win against No. 8 UCLA in GCU Arena. The Carlsbad, California, native recorded 17 kills at a .467 clip, along with four blocks. He also contributed four aces to a program record-tying 11 team aces.

After setting a new career high in kills on Friday, Gianni topped it on Sunday with 19 versus No. 6 Pepperdine. He hit .350 and recorded two aces, three digs and one solo block to lead the Lopes to a 3-1 win over the Waves.

His efforts also earned him the Off the Block National Outside Attacker of the Week.

Gianni joins teammates Christian Janke and Hugo Fischer as MPSF Offensive Player of the Week recipients this season. Janke, an outside hitter, earned the award on Feb. 3 and Fischer, a sophomore opposite, won it on Feb. 10.

The Lopes return to action on Thursday at Concordia Irvine before playing at No. 7 UC Irvine on Friday.
