Men's basketball, women's swimming represented for December
Grand Canyon student-athletes have their sights set on more than just winning on the competition field. With the help of the Academic and Student-Athlete Development staff, the Lopes are looking to provide leadership in the classroom and the community in addition to their roles on their respective teams.

| In the community Blacksher has been involved in a number of team community service initiatives including helping new GCU students move in during Welcome Week, washing cars at Paul's Car Wash to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona and Aid to the Adoption of Special Kids. |
In the community Christianson is one of the program's representatives on GCU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serves on the WAC SAAC as well. Alongside teammates, she has served at both St. Mary's Food Bank and Feed My Starving Children. |
| On the court Blacksher has been given a large role as a true freshman on GCU's basketball squad, immediately taking the reins as starting point guard. He's helped orchestrate the Lopes offense and averages 11.0 points and 4.9 rebounds. He's among the top 40 in the nation for minutes played. |
In the pool Christianson helped lead GCU to a 4-1 weekend in early November, claiming her first win of the season in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.06 before claiming second place in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.10). She was also on the Lopes' winning 400 medley relay team in a mid-October meet in Seattle. |
