With seven consecutive victories, the Grand Canyon baseball team looks to continue its longest winning streak since 2015 as it visits New Mexico for a two-game midweek series beginning on Tuesday.

The Lopes and Lobos are set to meet for the fifth straight season with New Mexico holding a 6-2 edge in the series. GCU and UNM have split two-game series the past two seasons.

Both games will stream live on the Mountain West Network.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

SHUTOUTS AND SUCCESS: The Lopes are coming off back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2016. GCU now has five for the season, giving it the most in the program's Division I history and second most in the past 17 years. GCU is one of 24 teams with five or more shutouts this season. With a 4.46 team ERA, GCU currently holds its best mark since 2014 (3.58) and No. 2 mark in its 14 D-I seasons.
DOUBLE DOWN: With 102 doubles in their 42 games, the Lopes are averaging 2.43 doubles per game to rank fourth in the country. Junior Kona Quiggle leads the charge with 18 doubles, tied for 10th nationally. Five more Lopes join Quiggle in the double digits.
STREAKING: GCU is on a seven-game win streak, its longest since opening the 2015 season with seven straight wins. With another win, the Lopes would have their first win streak of eight or more games since 2013, when GCU won 19 consecutively in its final Division II season.

SCOUTING

New Mexico enters the midweek series with a 19-23-1 record and sits in seventh place in the seven-team Mountain West Conference. New Mexico had six straight winning seasons from 2012 to 2017, prior to finishing 13 games under .500 last year. The Lobos have turned 43 double plays on the year, the ninth-most in the country. With a .295 batting average, New Mexico features a top-35 offense.

Over the weekend, New Mexico split a three-game series down the nose at league-leading Fresno State. The Lobos fell 10-4 in the opener, won 8-2 in Game 2 and tied 6-6 in the finale due to travel curfew.

Last year, GCU and New Mexico split a two-game midweek series at GCU Ballpark in Phoenix. In the opener, the Lopes scored three in the first and didn't look back in a 7-3 win. New Mexico got the leadoff batter on in seven of the game's nine innings, but GCU responded each time and forced eight Lobos to be stranded on base. The Lobos earned the split with a 10-4 win in the finale. UNM scored five times in the second on the way to a 10-4 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lopes are back at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark for the season's final six home games. GCU hosts CSU Bakersfield and Northern Colorado for back-to-back home WAC series.
