Lopes head to Las Cruces for 3

After a six-game homestand, the Grand Canyon softball team takes to the road to Las Cruces, N.M., for a three-game series at New Mexico State. The Lopes (26-17, 8-1 WAC) face the Aggies (21-18, 4-5 WAC) in a single game on Friday night and a doubleheader on Saturday night at NM State Softball Complex.

GCU is coming off of three-straight losses to then-No. 8 Arizona at home. Freshman second baseman Savannah Tourville tallied a hit in all three games, including a home run in the finale, while sophomore right-hander Ryan Denhart held the Wildcats to two unearned runs on four hits in Friday's second game.

Savannah Tourville ranks first in WAC games in RBI (11) and second in batting average (.480) and on-base percentage (.545).
Maddie Dowdle ranks fifth in WAC play with a .440 batting average.
Sierra Smith ranks ninth all-time in WAC history for career triples (13).
Sierra and Shea Smith are second among all Division I sets of twins in combined hits (94) and are fourth among twins in combined batting average (.347).

The Lopes topped undefeated and reigning national champion Florida State 5-3 on March 6. The Seminoles dropped three games over the course of that week following the loss to GCU.

Savannah Tourville became the first freshman to homer in her GCU debut since Barak in 2012. She doubled twice in the win against Florida State.
Ryan Denhart struck out 14 batters against North Dakota to set a new GCU Division I record.
The Lopes ended the 2018 season with the No. 12 batting average in the country at .316, led by Sierra Smith's .392 mark. GCU turned the fifth-most double plays per game in Division I in 2018 with 0.58 per game.
The Lopes won 30 games or more for the third consecutive season in 2018 with 31 wins, and won 20 home games for the second consecutive year.
Sierra Smith ranked 20th and 24th in the country in hits and triples, respectively, in 2018. The infielder slapped 76 hits and five triples in her junior season.
GCU head coach Ann Pierson is 24 wins away from 500 career wins. The GCU skipper has seven 30-plus win seasons and two 40-plus win seasons.
