The Grand Canyon men's swimming and diving team fell narrowly 152-145 to UNLV at home Saturday.
GCU seniors
Daniil Antipov and
Mark Nikolaev finished their final home meet of their careers with two individual wins apiece. Antipov swept the butterfly events, as he finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.23 seconds, while also winning the 200 butterfly in 1:46.20. Nikolaev swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 backstroke in 47.90 and the 200 backstroke in 1:48.45.Â
The Lopes won the 50 and 100 freestyles, as
Bogdan Plavin finished first in the 50 in 20.95 while
Florent Janin secured the win for GCU in the 100 with a time of 45.93.
Mazen Shoukri finished second in the 50 with a time of 21.11.Â
Asahi Nagahata notched second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (57.49) and the 200 breaststroke (2:05.50).Â
Alonso Carazo Barbero earned a second-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:53.78, while finishing third in the 500 freestyle (4:43.06) and 400 individual medley (4:09.89).
Eran Ber finished third in the 200 backstroke (1:53.85) and fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.25.Â
In his first home meet as a Lope, newcomer
Kainan De Jesus collected a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (51.66).
Dylan Nasser earned fourth-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:54.3) and the 400 individual medley (4:10.46).Â
The Lopes secured victories in both relays, as Nikolaev, Plavin, Antipov and Janin won the 400 medley relay (3:19.21) and Shoukri, Plavin, Janin and Antipov won the 200 freestyle relay (1:22.17).Â
Ber, Nagahata,
Samuel McKenzie and
Cameron Carney finished third in the 400 medley relay (3:29.39), while
Owen Cameron, McKenzie, Carney and Nagahata finished third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.40).Â
Pietro Hufnagel Toscani won the 1-meter dive with a score of 311.33 and took second in the 3-meter dive (332.03).
Nick Benson finished third in the 1-meter dive (272.70) and fourth in the 3-meter (274.05).Â
GCU is back in action Feb. 27-Mar. 2 for the WAC Championships in Houston.Â
