The Grand Canyon women's golf team added three standouts for the 2020-21 season.
Â
The Lopes will lose senior
Carolina Sandstrom to graduation, but welcome Constanza Bolanos of Spain, Carly Strole of Arizona and Becca Tschetter of North Dakota in the fall of 2020.
Â
"We are so thrilled to welcome Constanza, Carly and Becca to our GCU family," GCUÂ head coach
Lauren Giesecke said. "We have waited for quite some time to announce these additions to our 2020 program, so it is a great day. We feel so blessed that these three have committed to our program and the family we are building here at GCU. Each one of them brings strengths and values that aligns with our culture and the values of GCU. We have a strong sense of chemistry on the team and I know all three will fit in perfectly."
Â
CONSTANZA BOLANOSÂ | Huelva, Spain
In 2020-21, the Lopes will have a pair of Spaniards on their roster as Bolanos follows the path of current freshman
Carmen Belmonte. Bolanos ranks 19th in Spain and 93rd among all under-18 Europeans on the European Golf Rankings. She recorded a sixth-place finish at the Spanish Girls U18 tournament in April. Bolanos also earned EGR points at the Spanish Ladies International Stroke play and the International Spanish Stroke Play Championship. She recently checked in at No. 806 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Â
"Constanza is a very talented player and has competed against some of the best golfers in the world," Giesecke said. "Her strength of junior golf scheduling has given herself a platform and, with that, she has proven herself. We are looking forward to Constanza making an immediate impact with the team and on the course."
Â
CARLY STROLEÂ | Avondale, Arizona
A local product out of Millennium High School in Goodyear, Strole has numerous wins and top-10 finishes in her Junior Golf Association of Arizona career. Most recently, Strole checked in at No. 76 on the latest Junior Golf Scoreboard for the class of 2020. She won twice in 2018 and has six top-five finishes this year. She recorded a runner-up finish at the Mesa City Junior/IMG Junior World Qualifier, finished third at the Tucson City Junior Championship and fired a final round 70 at the IHOP Classic held at GCU Golf Course to finish in seventh place.
Â
"Carly is a phenomenal player who is very established in the Arizona golf community," Giesecke said. "She's proven herself to be a great competitor and has a strong sense of maturity. Carly is very long off the tee and has a great short game. I feel like Carly will make an immediate impact on our team and we will see a great bond within the group."
Â
BECCA TSCHETTERÂ | Minot, North Dakota
Tschetter comes to GCU from Minot (North Dakota) High School. She qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior, shooting 1 under par at Alta Mesa Golf Club. She also recorded a top-three finish at the Class A state championship during her junior season. Tschetter was named the Western Dakota Association Athlete of the Year and was runner-up for state Senior of the Year. Other honors included holding the lowest scoring average in the state, all-region and all-state honors and a runner-up finish at a Minnesota Junior PGA event.
Â
"Becca is a very athletic golfer who has competed in some bigtime events," Giesecke said. "Her iron play is some of the best and most crisp play that I've seen. She is a very mature and strong player that I know will make an immediate impact on our team."
Â
GCU begins the spring portion of its schedule in February at the Battle at the Rock in Riverside, California.Â
