Lopes sign hometown hitter for 2020

Lifgren to join next season's GCU squad
The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team signed local outside hitter Ashley Lifgren for the 2020 season, Lopes head coach Tim Nollan announced Wednesday.
"We are really excited to add Ashley Lifgren to our Lope family here at GCU," Nollan said. "She is an incredible outside hitter that has the ability to take over matches with her back-row play and offensive prowess. She is an Arizona kid and has been part of elite programs here in the Valley. We are looking forward to getting her on campus and can't wait to see what kind of immediate impact she will provide to the team."
The Peoria, Ariz., native is a 6-foot outside hitter who started four varsity seasons at nearby Centennial High School. She brings leadership to the table after serving as Centennial's captain for the past three years. Lifgren is a two-time region Player of the Year, district Player of the Year and West Valley Player of the Year. Additionally, she was named the region's Offensive Player of the Year and to the all-conference first team.
Lifgren also is a powerhouse in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA and an Arizona Interscholastic Association Scholar-Athlete Award.
"I chose GCU for many reasons, one of the those being how much time and effort the coaches put into me," Lifgren said. "I knew I wanted to play for a program with coaches that were dedicated and passionate. GCU is 20 minutes from my house so all my family and friends can come to all the games. When I stepped onto campus, I just knew that's where I wanted to be -- the people, the environment, everything."
