"An original Diamondback and now the head baseball coach at Grand Canyon University:
Andy Stankiewicz," announced Greg Schulte, longtime radio voice of the Arizona Diamondbacks, over the Chase Field speaker system.
Stankiewicz instinctively flashed a "Lopes Up" for the video board in front of a large crowd in downtown Phoenix, gathered for the Arizona Diamondbacks Annual Alumni Game on Saturday afternoon.
The GCU head coach, entering his eighth season with the program, was representing the D-backs Purple Team, joining forces with the likes of Luis Gonzalez and Miguel Montero.
The three-inning exhibition game offered a chance for old teammates to reunite and for Diamondbacks fans to get a glimpse at the nostalgia of 20 years of the franchise's former players.
Stankiewicz is one of 46 players who have the distinction of being an "Original Diamondback," playing 77 games for the club in 1998.

Stankiewicz and the baseball program are ready to welcome a new wave of student-athletes to the GCU campus later this month with fall practices just around the corner, preparing for a new spring season which begins in February 2019.
