Grand Canyon was selected as one of 20 host sites for the 2018 circuit of American Baseball Coaches Association Barnstormers Clinic with assistant coaches
Gregg Wallis and
Rich Dorman serving as featured speakers at the event.
GCU will host its clinic on Saturday, Dec. 8. The ABCA Barnstormers Clinics are rapidly increasing in popularity and serve as an undercard and regionalized version of the national ABCA Convention which takes place annually in early January.
"We are excited to be hosting this clinic at GCU, and it's an honor to be presenting," said Wallis, who is entering his sixth season with the GCU baseball program. "There are great speakers from all over the Arizona baseball community, and it should be a really fun day."
This year's event continues a trend of GCU baseball coaches presenting at ABCA events. Most notably, head coach
Andy Stankiewicz spoke at the ABCA Convention in front of 5,600 coaches in 2016.
In addition to Dorman and Wallis, the speaker schedule will include a handful of local coaches from Yavapai, South Mountain, Chandler-Gilbert and Ottawa. Dorman's talk will be on pitching while Wallis will instruct on outfield.
The Barnstormers Clincs are one-day coaching clinics for baseball coaches of all levels. The clinics are focused on the fundamentals, with a full day of practical position-specific drills, coaching cues and practice organization tips that can be directly applied to an individual athlete or a team.
The clinics are geared towards youth, academy, high school and travel coaches and instructors in the area but are also great for any baseball enthusiast or parent who wants to learn more about the game from some of the most respected coaches in the sport.
