PHOENIX, Ariz. – The senior pair of
Niki Gonzalez and
Kendsey Hill tallied three combined home runs to help the Grand Canyon softball team to an opening two-game sweep over Kansas City. The Lopes (26-23, 7-6 WAC) shutout the Roos (12-36, 2-12 WAC), 12-0 in game one and 5-4 in game two.
Gonzalez was 4-5 on the game with a pair of home runs and six RBI.
"Any time we can get two, we're always going to be happy with that," head coach
Ann Pierson said. "I was really pleased. Yesenia threw a great game. She was super efficient in game one.
"Any time the offense can explode that way and put that many runs on the board right away, that really helps the pitchers pitch with confidence and pound the zone."
